Liberal Democrat MEP Liz Lynne has tonight thanked the voters of the West Midlands after being re-elected to the European Parliament.

The results of Thursday's ballot were announced at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, and confirmed that Liz will continue as one of the MEPs serving the West Midlands Region for the next five years.

After the result, Liz said:

"I am delighted and honoured that the people of this region have asked me to continue serving them. I feel that I have achieved a lot for the people of the West Midlands in the last five years, but there is much more to be done and I look forward to continuing the work."

"I think tonight's result is a reflection of the hard work that the whole Liberal Democrat team have put in right across the region. Our votes tonight included people from all different communities, faiths, ages and backgrounds and that is very encouraging because it shows that what we have to say is not just a message targeted at the few but a philosophy that can encompass everyone.

"Paul Tilsley and the rest of the team would have made excellent MEPs and it's a great shame they won't be able to join me in Brussels. I look forward though to working with the six other MEPs elected tonight, to represent the people of the West Midlands in the European Parliament.

"This is an important time in deciding the future of our region, our country and our continent. Wherever I've gone, when people have heard about exactly what we stand for in Europe they have been responding positively, and I think tonight's result shows that."
